February 2013, Isle of Skye, Sound Portals

The walk between the two sites of Uamh an Ard Achadh and Uamh an t-sìol/Uamh an t-sìtheanach is peppered with little sound portals through which you can hear the echo of water running through caves and cavities below. The landscape of the Strath holds evidence of an historical conceptualisation of nature and the human ritual use of the caves we have visited are an indication of a particular interpretation of nature. The trail of sound portals are like teasing notes and clues as to what this interpretation and experience of landscape might have represented.
